60 a Day for Kids!
Canada’s Physical Activity Guidelines for children age 5 to 17 call for 60 minutes a day of moderate-intensity (e.g. bike riding, skating and playground activities) to vigourous-intensity (e.g. running and swimming) physical activity.
This includes:
- Vigourous-intensity activities at least three days a week
- Activities that strengthen muscle and bone (e.g. lifting weights or pushups) at least three days a week
Being active for at least 60 a Day can help children:
- Improve their health and fitness
- Do better in school
- Grow stronger
- Feel happier
- Maintain a healthy body weight
- Improve their self confidence
- Learn new skills – including fundamental movement skills that will help them become healthy and active for life.
