2010 Legacy Projects

2010 legaciesLong after the 2010 Winter Games have ended, the spirit of the Games has remained alive in Port Coquitlam through community partnerships and legacy projects.

The Port Coquitlam Spirit Committee was tasked with identifying and facilitating legacy projects that would leave a lasting benefit to the community after the 2010 Games ended.

The list of legacies included:
  • Fiive Art PODS (portable open design studios) for local artists
  • Historical Continuum heritage education signs along the Traboulay PoCo Trail
  • Historical Kiosk at the corner of Shaughnessy and McAllister Streets
  • 20-foot outdoor movie screen and projector, plus a nine-foot portable screen for indoors
  • Kids Play Zone indoor play area
  • Summer in the City arts and culture festival
  • 12 signs along the Traboulay PoCo Trail for the Hyde Creek Education Centre
  • Performance stage at Lions Park
  • Fifty red event flags
  • Utility box decorative wrappings
Just as important as those tangible legacies are the lasting connections created between many different people and organizations in Port Coquitlam. The Spirit Committee brought together a wide variety of interests – from sports to arts, from the environment to business – and those partnerships will continue to serve the community into the future.
