Utility Discount
Seniors and people with disabilities on a limited income may receive discounts on their utility bills if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • either 65 years of age or over at any time during the calendar year in which the charge is assessed, OR are disabled and receiving assistance or a supplement under the BC Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act,
  • living on the property and considering it to be their principal residence,
  • do not own any other property as defined in the Assessment Act,
  • the property does not contain a suite, and
  • total annual net income does not exceed $22,637 per person or $28,182 per household.
Applications must be completed each year. Applications submitted for 2012 must include a copy of the 2011 Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment.

If you have misplaced your Notice of Assessment, you may request a copy by calling Canada Revenue Agency at 1-800-959-8281, pressing the star key (*) and providing your Social Insurance Number.

Download an application form or visit the Tax Office located on the 1st floor of City Hall at 2580 Shaughnessy Street (map and directions).

Please complete and return the application before the utility bill due date to avoid penalty (5% on April 2 and an additional 5% on May 31). A completed application must be submitted to the City Collector by December 31st of the current year or the application for discount will be denied.

Submit the application one of the following ways:
  • By scanning and emailing to taxes@portcoquitlam.ca
  • By faxing to 604.927.5401
  • By dropping it off at the Tax Office (main floor) or through the mail slot (to the right of the main entrance) at City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street.
