Great post Greg. What would really make the experience even smoother would be the introduction of a stored value card system which will work seamlessly across all transit options (Bus, WCE, Skytrain, Seabus, etc) and can be charged up online. I hear it' s being considered but with budget shortfalls at Translink I fear this may be delayed. Having lived in Hong Kong for a couple years I can tell you it's the way to go. You can use their "Octopus" card in all sorts of ways there and its so easy and efficient. Steve

Consider the 160 on your way back to PoCo tomorrow, Greg. I commute from Vancouver to Poco three days a week and it takes about the same amount of time as the Skytrain/159 combo, but is a much prettier ride in many ways (Burrard Inlet!), and doesn't involve any transfers. Not many things are more depressing than waiting for a bus at Braid Station, I'm sorry to say...

I understand that Translink wants to spend $171 Million on smart cards and turn stiles, in order to recoup an average of $3M in lost revenue each year from people who don't pay. That's 56 years before that investment even breaks even and that is not including any financing charges. WOW... no wonder TRANSLINK is in the red. Making financial decisions like that. Maybe the people who originally constructed the sky train factored in the cost of administering ticket fairs and then realized that most people are honest. If we all took transit... like we all did during the Olympics... then we are in for a long wait. People had to wait for 3, 4 or 5 buses because they were jam packed. TRANSLINK is all about mega projects and then scraping every penny from each and every citizen. Oh ya, I am sure they are the reason parking is now on until 10pm even in residential areas like Kitsilano. Don't know if you will read this but hey ... at least there is a space to comment.
