Proposed Telecommunications Tower
Rogers Communications has submitted a proposal to the City of Port Coquitlam to lease City property for
the installation of a semi-permanent telecommunications (cell) tower. The tower will be used by Rogers
and TELUS.
At the City’s request, Rogers has conducted a technical review of potential site locations and is
proposing a tower site in city-owned property (Greenmount Park) northeast of Oxford Street and Greenmount Avenue.
Previously Rogers had considered an alternate city property located on an unused portion of the Port
Coquitlam cemetery. This potential site is no longer being considered.
As mandated by Industry Canada, the national telecommunications regulator, Rogers conducted a consultation and notification process to gather public input on the proposal. Prior to considering the application from Rogers, the City wishes to provide a Public Consultation Session at its May 9, 2011 regular Council Meeting.
