June is Bike Month

June is Bike Month, and it's a great opportunity to dust off that bike after winter and head out to explore Port Coquitlam on two wheels. With the weather warming up, it’s time to rethink your stressful commute. What about cycling along tree-lined streets, trails and bike lanes instead of bumper -to-bumper traffic? You’ll save money, get fit and help the environment. You’ll also get there on time – for trips under 10 kilometers, cycling can be as fast as driving during rush hour. Test-ride your commuter route on the weekend and explore alternate routes Forget the car keys – strap on that bike helmet and pedal your way to a healthier lifestyle.

We recognize that it isn’t always possible to walk, bike, take transit or carpool to work, but every little bit helps! By leaving your vehicles at home once a week we can all reduce our personal contribution to greenhouse gas emissions by almost 1 tonne per year! Using sustainable transportation – even once a week - will make a significant positive impact on our air quality.

Traboulay PoCo Trail
The foundation for Port Coquitlam’s trail network is the Traboulay PoCo Trail, a 25-kilometre route that encircles the community. This flat walking and cycling trail is suitable for exploring at any time of the year. The trail traverses a varied landscape that includes forest and creek, meadow and marsh, riverfront and urban development. The paved Downtown section winds through areas where local residents live, play and work. It’s well used by recreational users as well as bicycle commuters. From there, cycle through the serene and historic Colony Farm section, which features more than 150 bird species and is one of the most biodiverse parts of the region.

It's your chance to discover quiet, safe, beautiful routes for excursions or everyday trips. Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. Get fit. Save money. Fall in love with your commute.
