Fire Fighter
The Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services is accepting applications from highly motivated, energetic professionals to assume the role of Fire Fighter. This is skilled fire fighting entailing the combating, extinguishing and preventing of fires, and saving of life and property. A Fire Fighter is responsible for rapidly and efficiently performing various duties under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable hazard. The work includes routine servicing and maintenance of fire equipment, apparatus, and property and participation in programs such as company fire inspections. Although specific orders, instructions and assignments are received from a superior, a Fire Fighter exercises independent judgment and action in emergency situations where referral to a superior for directions is not possible. Work performance is checked and evaluated by a superior in terms of effective firefighting and related services rendered to the Fire Department.Date Posted: Tuesday, December 6, 2011

- Canadian Citizen; or Landed Immigrant with legal entitlement to work in Canada;
- Successful completion of an approved Firefighter Training program resulting in the completion of a NFPA 1001 Level I & II Certification;
- Hazardous Materials Response – Awareness and Operational Levels (NFPA 472);
- One of the following:
- First Responder Level III;
- Emergency Medical Responder;
- Occupational First Aid Level III.
- AED Endorsement;
- CPR “C” Certification;
- 20/30 visual acuity unaided. Peripheral vision safe for the position of Firefighter;
- Normal unaided hearing;
- High School Graduation or equivalent;
- A valid B.C. Driver’s Licence, Class 3 with Air Endorsement;
- A driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour:
- Candidates must not have more than 6 points on their current driver’s licence, or any suspensions or prohibitions. A current driver’s abstract detailing the last 5 years of your driving record will be requested during Phase 3 of our recruitment process.
- No conviction for a criminal offence related to the occupation of Fire Fighter.

- Minimum one year of accumulated work experience after high school, preferably in work related to the needs of the Fire Service. For example: building construction, mechanical, driving trucks and/or large emergency vehicles, fire service, first aid nursing, paramedic, instructor/educator, etc.
- Successful completion of a post-secondary education program (academic, technical or trades training) – minimum 30 credits or an acceptable combination of related technical or trades training;
- Additional fire service related courses.
