When the Port Coquitlam firefighters are not responding to fire/rescue calls, or performing inspections, they are training.
53 career suppression firefighters are trained in number of specialized areas, as well as First Responder Level III, CPR, and in the use of automatic external defibrillation (AED).
The training that the career fire fighters receive in the use of AED gives each fire fighter the skills and knowledge to recognize a patient in cardiac arrest and to intervene with basic life support.
The Training Division supervises, delivers, documents, and records all aspects of training from new recruits to sophisticated fire fighting and rescue procedures, and finally to the Officer Development Programs. The Fire Service has evolved from a fire suppression force to become an emergency response force, capable of dealing with a wide variety of emergencies. As the role of the Fire Service changes, our training programs and scope of training has expanded to meet the increased complexity and diversity of the service we supply. Our fire fighters must now be trained and equipped to meet any and all emergencies found within a modern urban setting.
