IMPORTANT NOTICE - New Smoke Alarm Regulation The primary mission of the Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services Department is to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Port Coquitlam from the adverse effects of fires, sudden medical emergencies or exposures to dangerous conditions created by man or nature. This is accomplished through fire prevention, education and training programs.
A 63 member contingent serves the City population of approximately 55,000. With residential density spread across ten square miles and various light commercial, light industry, heavy industry and rural properties situated in both centralized and remote areas of the community, Fire & Emergency Services work to ensure the safety of all who work and live in the City of Port Coquitlam.
The future looks bright for Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services. As the needs of the community change, the department’s operations continue to evolve and expand. While moving forward, the department has eagerly adopted advancements in equipment and technology. The concept of the fire service now includes much more than structural fire fighting.
The general categories of emergency response for the Department are Fire Suppression, Medical Aid and Special Operations (hazardous materials, rope rescue, confined space rescue) and as of late, the primary duties of managing Emergency Preparedness for the City. Firefighters are trained to the highest level of First Aid available in the province - First Responder Level III. The introduction of automatic external defibrillators (A.E.D.) has enabled us to provide the most modern first responder treatment for heart attack victims. Regardless of the size or complexity of the incident the Port Coquitlam firefighters are trained and equipped to serve the community.
Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services has always faced its challenges boldly and responded quickly to change in the fire service and in the community that it serves. New pages to the story are being written every day by the actions of the dedicated and professional staff who comprise what we believe is one of the finest departments in British Columbia.
