The Planning Division provides information, analysis and advice to Council, other departments and agencies, and the public on matters related to the planning and development of the City. In keeping with the focus of the 2005 Official Community Plan, the Division is primarily concerned with factors important to our quality of life and how land use, economic development, environmental protection, transportation planning and the provision of community facilities and services may be integrated. In keeping with our role to direct the growth and development of the community and manage change Division staff also provide economic development services, research assistance and coordination of social planning functions. 

Day-to-day activities include reviewing and processing applications to: amend the Zoning Bylaw to provide for a change in the permitted use or density, obtain a development permit to guide the form and character of a multiple family, commercial or industrial project, obtain a development permit to ensure the protection of a watercourse, provide for variance to Zoning Bylaw or other regulations, issue a sign permit or review business licence applications.
