‘Shaughnessy Park’ refers to the linear parkland along Shaughnessy Street, between Prairie Avenue and Lincoln Avenue. Preliminary design of Shaughnessy Park will be undertaken in 2006. In order to begin the design work for this new park, the City is seeking public input on what activities and facilities should be included in the park.
The main objective in developing Shaughnessy Park is to make it a family-oriented, passive type of park, very similar to Lions Park.
Some of the programs and amenities currently under consideration include:
- Open green space for play and picnicking
- A group picnic area, with shelter
- Trails for walking and jogging
- A children’s playground
- A small hard-surface multi-purpose court
- A mountain bike skills park/trails
- An off-leash dog area
- Washrooms
- Parking
The total useable park area is approximately 10 acres. This is the area within the dashed line on the map shown to the right. The dashed line illustrates a minimum 30 metre set back from the 'top of bank' and a buffer from the Traboulay PoCo Trail and the adjoining townhouses.
