Bathroom Fixture Rebate Program
 Bathroom Fixture Rebate Program
Make the switch to a water-saving toilet and showerhead and get a $100 utility tax rebate per bathroom!

Port Coquitlam's Bathroom Fixture Replacement Rebate Program provides a utility tax rebate to homeowners who switch to both a 4.8-litre/flush high efficiency toilet (HET) with a waste removal threshold of 500 grams and a 9.5-litre/minute showerhead.

At this time, only single-family and multi-family homes built prior to September 30, 2005 are eligible, with a maximum of up to two $100 rebates per household. Industrial, commercial and other non-residential properties are not eligible at this time.

The program’s goal is to conserve water and help reduce the costs associated with sewer and water use in the City. Participating homeowners not only save on their utility taxes, but they also reduce their home energy bills and help the environment. Older toilets and showerheads can waste hundreds of litres of water per day in an average household.

Note: As of October 4, 2010, only HETs will be accepted under the Bathroom Fixture Replacement Rebate Program.  Receipts for 6.0 litre/flush models will only be accepted if the purchase date is prior to October 4, 2010.

It's easy. Here's what to do:

  1. Ensure you meet the program requirements. See the rules.
  2. Fill out the rebate application.
  3. Provide a copy of a receipt for each new fixture (both toilet and showerhead), dated after March 1, 2006 and specifying the manufacturer's name and fixture's model number.
  4. Drop off your old toilet, along with the completed application and receipts (or copies), at the Operations Centre, 1737 Broadway Street, Port Coquitlam (map and directions) from Monday to Friday between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Some good reasons to go low-flow:

  • Toilets account for about one-third of the water used in an average home.
  • Older toilets use 13 - 20 litres of water per flush -- 36,000 more litres per year than a 4.8 litre/flush HET.
  • The new HETs have been reengineered to perform better.
  • Regular showerheads can use up to 190 litres for a 10-minute shower and typically use more than double the hot water of low-flow models.

The Rules

  • Port Coquitlam homeowners and property managers are eligible, but they must install both a toilet and showerhead in each applicable bathroom.
  • Only single-family and multi-family dwellings constructed prior to September 30, 2005, are eligible. Industrial, commercial and other non-residential properties are not eligible at this time.
  • There is a maximum of two rebates per dwelling.
  • Toilets must be CSA or Warnock Hersey certified, be a HET model, and have a minimum waste removal threshold of 500 grams. The Maximum Performance (MaP) Testing Program provides flushing performance scores and a convenient search engine for toilets.
  • Applications must drop off their applications and their old toilets at the City's Operations Centre at 1737 Broadway Street (map and directions).
  • The toilets and showerheads may be installed by the resident or a licensed plumber. (No permit required for simple toilet replacement.)
