- before constructing, repairing or altering a building or structure;
- before installing, repairing or altering any plumbing and similar works;
- before demolishing a building; and
- before moving a building to any property.
Permit fees are calculated based on the value of construction of the work. On average, a permit fee for a building permit is approximately 1% of the total cost of the project. Permit fees are also associated with the installation of septic tanks, sewer systems, plumbing fixtures, sprinkler heads and fire hydrants. Other fees that may be associated with a permit are listed in the 3710 - Building and Plumbing Bylaw, 2009.
